Yukon Ho!

A snowstorm started around 2am Friday morning and continued on and off for most of the rest of the day. In the Jemez Mountains, they got around six to eight inches. It started in the form of sleet and rapidly became wet, heavy flakes that accumulated faster than the barely warmer than freezing ground could melt it.

Of course, it also broke tree limbs and power lines that had also been weakened by days of high winds. Power lines that provided needed electricity and network services to remote areas. Remote areas like the Milagro Gamma Ray Telescope.

I love snow. I really do, but I think that I have had enough for now. I really could have done without the impotent runs to the site yesterday attempting to fight the results of a brown out that kept flickering into the black. And I definitely did not want to be leaving for the site first thing this morning. I hope that Scott gets here soon. If I am going to go, I would rather fix things sooner rather than later.

At times like this, I really wish that Calvin were right and that there really were snow demons to appease/displease/combat.

My tiger friend has got the sled,
And I have packed a snack.
We’re all set for the trip ahead,
    We’re never coming back.
We’re abandoning this life we’ve lead,
    So long, Mom and Pop.
We’re sick of doing what you’ve said,
And now it’s going to stop.
We’re going where it snows all year,
Where life can have real meaning,
A place where we don’t have to hear,
“Your room could stand some cleaning.”
The Yukon is the place for us,
That’s where we want to live.
Up there we can yell and cuss
    And act real primitive.
    . . . and that’s all I can remember right now. Still.

      • Okay, I think I remember the rest. . .
We’ll never have to clean a plate
        Of veggie glops and goos
        Messily we’ll masticate
        Using any fork we choose.
        Something something something
        Forced into submision
        By monsterous, crabby teachers
        Who’ll make us learn addition.
The timber wolves will be our friends,
We’ll stay up late and howl
At the moon till nighttime ends
        Before going on the prowl.
Oh what a life, we cannot wait
To be in that arctic land
Where we’ll be the masters of our fate
And lead a life that’s grand
        No more of parental rule
        We’re heading for some snow!
Good riddence to those grownup ghouls
        We’re leaving – YUKON HO!
